Eric Berne was a psychiatrist,
Born in Canada in nineteen-ten.
He gave us Transactional Analysis.
He watched his patients change, and change again:
One man said, "You should! You must!"
Then he asked, "What are the facts?"
Then he cried, "It isn't fair!"
Like three people in one chair!
🔑 𝗣𝗿𝗲-𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘂𝘀
Capital P, capital A, capital C,
Not people, but states in you and me!
Three ego states, one personality,
Three ways to think and feel and be!
🎤 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘂𝘀
Parent: rules and love from Mom and Dad!
Adult: the facts, the here and now!
Child: the feelings, happy, scared, or sad!
Parent, Adult, Child, who's talking now?
(Who's talking now? Who's talking now?) 🎶

My Adult asks, "Where are my keys?"
Your Adult says, "Next to the TV."
Stimulus, response: two parallel lines.
Complementary transaction, and we talk just fine!
Next day, same question: "Where are my keys?"
You shout, "Why do you always blame me?!"
Your Child talks to my Parent. The lines cross. We fight!
Crossed transaction! Eric Berne was right!

Everybody's hungry for a stroke:
A smile, a word, a laugh, a joke,
Positive or negative, big or small,
A bad stroke is better than no stroke at all!
In nineteen sixty-four, Berne wrote "Games People Play":
Hidden messages in the words we say.
"Why don't you...?" "Yes, but..." Again and again,
We play the game, and we both feel bad at the end!

🌈 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘂𝘀
Parent: rules and love from Mom and Dad!
Adult: the facts, the here and now!
Child: the feelings, happy, scared, or sad!
Parent, Adult, Child, who's talking now?
We need all three, and we can choose.
So stop and think: who's talking now?

Who's talking now? (Parent! Adult! Child!)
One, two, three, now you know! 🎶✨
